Our History

Resurrection Life Church in Ionia began with a word from God. Pastor John and Lisa Prominski believed they were going to start a church in Muskegon, Michigan. They even went before the congregation of the Grand Haven Resurrection Life Church and told them so. Having been accepted into the pastoral internship program at the Resurrection Life Church in Grandville they went there not even knowing there were any other options. Thinking that the Pastoral internship was to prepare him for starting a church in Muskegon, it was quite a shock when Pastor Duane VanderKlok told John there were quite a few cities that wanted a Resurrection Life Church there. John told Pastor Duane he would pray about it and go where God called him to go.

Pray is exactly what Pastor John did and what God spoke to him changed the course of his and his family’s life. Still believing that he and Lisa were going to end up pastoring in Muskegon, John prayed thinking that God was going to confirm this. While driving from Grand Haven to Grandville to be at the Wednesday service John was praying over the cities Pastor Duane mentioned to him. When he mentioned Ionia he began to weep uncontrollably. John knew this was not just an average cry in a time of prayer. Immediately John reminded the Lord that he had already told the congregation in Grand Haven that they were going to Muskegon, where many of them lived and were thrilled about a new church starting there. The Lord spoke to Pastor John and asked him what he asked Peter, “Do you love me more than these?”

Based on a word from the Lord John and Lisa started the Resurrection Life Church in Ionia with only fifteen people in the home of Rick and Kristen Johnson in June of 1997.

From there they went to the Ionia Middle School’s Watt Auditorium where they held their first Sunday service on September 14, 1997. Today they are in their own facility holding five services every week to meet the needs of a growing church.

It is amazing how an act of obedience can affect so many lives. Pastor John and Lisa had never been to Ionia. They had never even been to a Free Fair. Having God speak to their hearts was all they needed to come. With the support of both the Grandville and Grand Haven Resurrection Life Churches they launched out pioneering a church in an area that only had one other spirit-filled church for miles.

It is the vision of the Resurrection Life Church in Ionia to be a place of healing. A place where God is healing hurt’s, hearts and homes. They feel as if God has called them to be a modern day pool of Bethesda. God has truly confirmed His word with signs and wonders. Weekly, people are inviting Jesus into their heart as Lord and Savior. They are seeing tumors, cancer, heart problems, multiple sclerosis, not to mention marriages and family’s healed by the power of God. Pastor John believes they are in the midst of a sovereign move of God that will impact many generations to come should the Lord tarry.
